MÄHKÄ is a collar made from surplus peat wool. As a material, peat wool is warm yet breathable, and is a vegan alternative to wool. The yarn consists of 50% surplus peat yarn and 50% acrylic yarn. The peat yarn we use is remnants from the Finnish Kultaturve company, which operated in the 1990s, and which we salvaged when the company ceased operations. Since peat yarn alone is not strong enough, we add acrylic yarn to complement it. CARE INSTRUCTIONSRegularly air out the peat wool product, which will also extend the time between washes. However, if the product needs washing, we recommend hand washing. Shape the product to its correct form while damp, as peat yarn may change shape during washing. For example, a hat should be stretched to the correct size while damp.
